Larsen 4/4 Cello C String Medium Tungsten-Steel Review

I have never been dissapointed with Larsen strings yet. As an orchestra cellist (I do not do as much soloing, though I enjoy accompanyin), these strings are very respected and popular with the other cellist I encounter. They are very good strings, they ring true and deep. Someone once pointed at my C string and said, "whoa you got one of those good strings!" because it was a tungsten (i'm pretty sure) Larsen string. I think they are well worth the price, and I give them the highest rating I can.

Bought this book for my daughter- age 10.She likes it, but likes Volume 2 better.It has interesting songs, but seemed too simple for her as she had a piano background.Preferred Volume 2 and thinks you should go straight to #2 if you already have a background in music.

TV Favorites for Cello [Paperback] Review

This book has some really neat songs like, Jeopardy!, The Addams Family, The Brady Bunch, Green Acres, The Munsters, NFL on Fox, and my most favorite, Happy Days! But I am not really a big fan of the rest of the songs. They are ok to play a little, but I don't really care for the shows they are from. Like, Family Guy, Entertainment tonight, The Simpsons, etc. Like I said, they are ok to play, but the shows, nahh.

Cremona SC-100 Premier Novice Cello, 1/8 Size Review

I have bought this Cremona cello for my then 5 year old son. I did not expect much from it, therefore I was pleasantly surprised when I heard it. It has a very nice sound, which is, of course, the most important thing for the instrument, it truly sealed my son's love for cello. Besides sounding great it is well built, fine tuners are invaluable and it is wonderful that this cello actually has them. (Some small cellos do not have fine tuners at all). The end pin has a safe point and it slides in and out easily and can be easily adjusted in height. The bow is decent and the nylon case is durable, can be washed, has handy pockets and obvioulsly is very light, another positive aspect when one keeps in mind who is going to carry the instrument on his/her back.

The Original Hill Dark Rosin Review

This rosin has been recommended to me by my violin teacher and I am very happy with the results of using it. The consistency of the rosin is softer then other brands I tried, and thus makes the application onto the bow hair much easier. The rosin stays on the hair for quite a long time, and treated bow produces very clean sound, without any harshness or hisses. Residue fall out onto the violin varnish seems less messy then from some stock rosins I tried. Wrapping the rosin in cloth/sponge is a nice touch - no plastic box to rattle inside your violin case, and your hands stay clean while handling it.

Pirastro Evah Pirazzi 1/2-3/4 Size Cello Strings, 1/2-3/4 Set Review

I have previously used Larson upper strings and tungsten Spirocore lower.These strings play more easily, with less pressure, yet have a powerful singing sound.Forte sound is obtained using more bow rather than more pressure close to bridge.They also seem to last at least a year and still sound good.

D'addario VR200 Violin Rosin (Light) Review

I was disappointed with this rosin. It creates the grip, but produces a very noisy sound with my violin. Not worth purchasing. After trying this for the first time, I immediately went back to using Hill Light Rosin. Paying a few bucks extra for the Hill or other similar professional rosin is worth it.

Glasser X Series Carbon Graphite Black 4/4 Cello Bow with White Hair Review

I requested this item as a gift because it was affordable.The bow is, of course, important to the sound and I have to say that even though this bow is inexpensive, as an upgrade from my standard issue student fiberglass cheap bow it is 20x the sound quality for 1.5x the price.

Handles nicely, and is probably pretty tough ( I play with a lot of rock bands so this is handy when traveling )

If you are broke but care about your sound, try it fo sho.

I just purchased a used Franz Hoffman Maestro Cello out of Ann Arbor Michigan.That cello came with this very tailpiece.It works very well.After receiving an ebony tailpiece out of a Tulsa Strings Store with the heavy metal Wittner individual fine tuners, I made my decision not to use that one based on the composite comparison in hand.

I have a second cello, an Eastman Strings 200 Series Cello which requires setup.This cello will receive the same tailpiece and was actually recommended by the luthier in Tulsa after I'd purchased the ebony.I love honesty but I'd also like to hear from others.I'm curious why anyone would pay 51 dollars for a Wittner Aluminum tailpiece when this one is available for 23 dollars?

Learning the Tenor Clef: Progressive Studies and Pieces for Cello (Cello Piano) [Paperback] Review

This is the second book I've reviewed which is 'supposed' to teach you tenor clef.It does nothing of the sort.The book gives you absolutely no background information on the clef, nor does it show you where the notes are, or any sort of guidance. There is not ONE word of explanation or diagram in the entire book.This book is definitely not for the beginning student. I've been playing for 2 years and I can't make heads or tales of this book. The title of this book is "Learning the Tenor Clef", which is not truly misleading as long as you recognize that you'll need to be taught how to read/utilize the tenor clef by some other means. I am disappointed with this book.

Cremona SC-130 Premier NoviceCello, Full-Size Review

Cremona is a company out of China that produces this particular piece. The quality of the strings, bow, and bridge are low... But the quality of the cello body itself is quite remarkable for the money... This would be perfect for any beginner cellist. However my bow, in particular has a slight bend to it, does not effect playing too drastically... And I needed to replace the strings, as they'd screech often, and not note properly. After investing ~$80 into strings, and better rosin, my Cremona SC-130 sounds beautiful. And I'm very fulfilled with this purchase.

When I ordered this item, what shipped was Solo Time for Strings for Bass Book One (which is also available under a different item number and description).Amazon does not apparently sell Solo Time for Strings for Violin Book One (although they sell Book Two).The description here is competely incomplete.I'm giving the product three stars, because it might be some use for a bass student, but it's no help for a young violinist.

this book is a versatile collection of arrangements of common worship songs.the solo and accompaniment parts allow for a little improvisation, and would be a good start for someone who likes to see a riff written out, but wants to try improv. some arrangements get repetitive if this is not done. some arrangements are a little on the long side. it would be best for a young high school jazz student, or for the church musician who wants something that can pull together quickly for the service. the accompaniment requires that the pianist be excellent at reading difficult rhythms and familiar with latin, jazz, folk, blues, and CCM idioms. there is also the option of adding drumset or additional instruments, including pennywhistle/recorder, guitar, etc. these are real crowd-pleasers - my husband and i get nothing but positive feedback when we perform them.

Advanced 4 String Electric Cello -Black- by Rocket City Music Company Review

I jumped on an electric cello as the only thing I'd be able to play in my apartment. I certainly enjoy this cello, but it should not be described as "'silent' when not played through an amp." In reality, it sounds only slightly quieter than a real cello, except for the lowest string, which is significantly quieter. If your goal is to be really really quiet when you play, the piercingly loud, higher notes are still going to be just that.

Still, the fact that it has a full-body, wood resonating chamber is sure to produce a more authentic sound when amplified (though I am not able to compare it to one of those minimal-frame electric cellos).Rocket City should just cut holes in the front and make it an accoustic-electric.

We put these strings on my daughter's cello that had cheap stock strings, and were surprised at the huge improvement in tone.Very clear and bright--probably too bright for an advanced player, but good for the student players that these strings are designed for.Unless you have absolutely zero budget for your instrument, upgrading from cheap strings to these ones is money well spent.

Artino Cello Practice Mute Review

my cello teacher higher recommends this mute. He said its one of the best he has come across.For me it mutes the strings evenly, clamps on the bridge securely.It just turns the volume down by half which is good because I live in an apartment.However, if I want to practice in the middle of the night, I think my neighbours can still hear me.

Cello Stool: adjustable from 13" to 17" Review

It's a handy little stool. One that is great for people who need to not sit so high off of the ground. It's not the most durable. I use it for playing guitar, though and tend to move quite a bit while I'm playing. Movement causes the thumbscrew to loosen and the seat swivels by the end of a couple of songs - nothing dangerous. Given that the seating platform is cardboard, I doubt it will last for long. It's inexpensive for the quality. The company ships promptly.

Jazz Philharmonic: Cello (Making Jazz Easy in the String Orchestra) [Student Edition] [Paperback] Review

I'm very pleased with this.I'm only just now starting to learn how to play the cello and this starts out with a jazz piece that simple enough that even I can play.The first piece plays like three notes, then skips a measure and plays three more, and so on, so you have plenty of time to compose yourself between measures and don't feel rushed.The first exercise also plays a scale in a very nice 'musically sounding' way that actually sounds like jazz complete with a backing track.So you feel like your playing jazz even when practicing the scale.

The music is also quite complete.There are three Bass Cleff Staves.The top staff has the cello pieces you are learning.The second staff has the background bass which is being plucked and could be played by another cello, a double bass, or a bass guitar.So it comes with the music for the bass part too.

The third staff, also written in the bass cleff, contains the more-advanced cello solos.In fact, it took me a while to figure out what was going on.The lessons start out with the easier top cello line.Then proceeds playing more advanced stuff.I thought he was just doing his own thing after the lesson, but now I realize that he's playing the more difficult second solo part shown on the third staff.So it's all written down.

These are nice because the backing tracks aren't too overly crowded instruments either, just piano and drums and they are totally in the background just for accompaniment.

Also, every piece has a "prepartory lesson" before the actual piece is played.The preparatory lessons start out with the scale for that piece, then the scale is played with double notes (not double stops), just each note of the scale bowed twice. But it's done in a very nice rhythm that feels like playing jazz.Then the exercise moves on to "call backs" where the cello plays a measure, then you repeat it in the next measure and so-on.Each measure is designed to match various phrases of the piece.So then when you go to play the piece you've already played most of it during the prepartory exercise.

It's a really well-constructed book and CD.I highly recommend it for anyone starting out on the cello (assmuing you have the preliminaries out of the way).It doesn't start from scratch.In fact, this stuff gets pretty complicated too so it's not just for beginners I'm sure.But it's working well for me.It starts out simple enough that a new cello player could definitely get a handle on it quickly.You can always play the easier parts and just ignore the more advanced stuff because it basicaly plays the easy piece first, and then does it again more advanced.So you can just go as far as you're comfortable with and basically play the whole piece at that level.

For more advanced cello players there's probably a lot to learn here too, there are techniques going on in the advanced stuff that I have no clue how to do, but that's ok, if I learn all these pieces just on the simpler level I'll be happy for now.

The cello part can be tuned out if you have a balance control on your CD and you can practice whatever level you are comfrotable with with the backing track.The music is such that you keep repeating phrases that you've already learned.Or you can move on to the more the complicated way of playing them.

I think this is a good lesson plan that can be helpful to a lot of cello players on many different levels.I'm very happy with it.
